Abuelita Champurrado is a chocolate-based atole, a warm and thick Mexican drink based on masa flour. Try this refreshing and relaxing beverage anytime you're looking for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients

Step 1

Place hot water and masa flour in large saucepan; mix until smooth. Add milk and Abuelita chocolate. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until boiling. Reduce heat to low; cook, stirring constantly, for 1 to 3 minutes or until thickened to desired consistency. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon, if desired. Serve immediately.

Suggestions:

Anise and/or cloves can also be added to mixture if desired and then removed before serving. The mixture can be strained through a fine sieve before serving if a smoother Champurrado is desired.
